Matthew’s first performances were in front of guests at his parents’ public house where he played music by the likes of Ritchie Blackmore and Jimi Hendrix. His teens were spent playing guitar and bass in local country and rock ‘n’ roll bands.

During high school he won the National Eisteddfod of Wales music competition under the guidance of the famous Welsh choral conductor Islwyn Evans in a performance with his classmates of Hendrix’s Hey Joe.

Matthew’s interest in a wide range of styles led to him leaving Wales in order to study Music Composition at Coventry University. He also participated in masterclass seminars given by great guitarists such as the jazz legend Martin Taylor and the British classical guitarist Gary Ryan.

Based for many years in the beautiful city of Bath, Matthew worked as a session musician, performing extensively throughout the South West of England.

Since 2009, Matthew has been living in Tokyo and has enjoyed teaching music to students from all ages and backgrounds.
