Giovanni Plays Living Colour

Happy Birthday to Vernon Reid who turns 62 today! Reid is the founder of the rock band Living Colour, which happens to be one of Giovanni's all-time favorite bands.

So in tribute, Giovanni plays their Grammy Award winning song "Cult of Personality".

Reid's tasteful playing here is a great example of how to use arpeggios in a rock context to create a countermelody to the vocal line. Notice how although the guitar accompaniment is quite sophisticated, it complements the vocal melody rather than distracting from it.
